Niki Lauda did not get off to a good start in the 1977 season, having to retire from the opening race due to a fuel system failure. However, despite the less-than-ideal start, Lauda went on to make a point throughout the rest of the season. Lauda finished the season with seven podiums as well as three Grands Prix and was crowned the 1977 Formula One World Champion.
