Aston Martin rejoined the grid in 2021 after 61 years away from the sport, with a driver line-up of four-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, and Canadian ace, Lance Stroll, who both continued together in 2022. These two years were paramount for the rebranded team as they re-navigated the sport. 

The role of the DRS flap is an important one, designed to reduce drag and increase straight-line speed. When activated in designated DRS zones, the flap opens to decrease downforce, allowing the car to accelerate faster and improve overtaking opportunities. However, it automatically closes when the driver lifts off the throttle or applies the brakes, restoring downforce for better cornering stability. When racing, drivers need to be within one second of the car in front, whilst in the DRS Zone (or detection zone) for the DRS to be activated.
