Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are good friends off the circuit but are bitter rivals on the circuit. The Emilia-Romagna GP is evidence of how close these two drivers push each other.
The two races preceding this one were the Chinese & Miami GP’s. At the Chinese GP, Max won and Lando came second – at the Miami GP the reverse happened, with Lando leading Verstappen home to a first and second.
The Emilia-Romagna saw a similar set-up. Max Verstappen started on pole, with Lando accompanying him on the front-row. The race got under way and the Red Bull maintained the lead. As the race progressed, it appeared as if ity would be an easy win for Verstappen. At one point, Norris was under threat to lose 2nd to Charles Leclerc, but the McLaren found plenty of pace in his final stint. The final 12 laps were incredible, as Norris closed in on his rival, getting ever closer and lapping as much as a second per lap faster at certain points.
Norris closed right up to the back of Verstappen, just as the Chequered Flag fell... If there was any more laps left of this race, then Lando could have changed this result.
Nevertheless, a 0.7s finish was incredibly exciting and shows exactly what we can expect between this pair of drivers for the rest of the season and beyond.
