The man who out qualified Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen is one of the best drivers to ever sit in a single seater. Häkkinen began his career with Lotus in 1991 before moving to McLaren as their test driver in 1993 before a fall out between McLaren and Michael Andretti paved the way for Häkkinen to become a full-time driver. This pairing turned out to be perfect as the ‘Flying Finn’ went on to win the World Championship in 1998 and 1999.

This piece comes from 1998, Häkkinen’s first championship winning year as he finished ahead of Formula 1 great Michael Schumacher.
